MODERNIZATION OF ZSU-23-4 “SHILKA” SELF-PROPELLED ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN

Upgrade objectives:

Enhancement of combat capabilities and main characteristics due to:

  •  modernization of an on-board radar 1RL33;
  • option of SPAAG automatic control from a command post;
  • application of modern digital computing devices which increase the accuracy of guidance of anti-aircraft guns to the prediction point;
  • increased kill probability in the conditions of active jamming due to application of an optical-electronic system for detection and automatic tracking of targets and introduction of an X-band radar.

Enhancement of combat capabilities and main characteristics due to:

Increased survival capability due to:
  • reduction of geo positioning time;
  • improving radar concealment by application of an optical-electronic system that ensures the detection and automatic tracking of targets during the day and at night;
  • reduction of SPAAG visibility in visible and IR bands due to heatabsorbing coating, reduction of a power unit power, increased efficiency rate of a propulsion engine.
Improvement of combat crew work conditions due to:
  • introduction of new automated workstations of a commander, search operator-gunlayer and range operator, which allow to receive target data from a command post in an automatic mode, display the data required for combat operation (target movement parameters, kill zone parameters, equipment status, etc.) from radar and optical channels;
  • introduction of simulator equipment, which improves the quality of crew training in realistic environment with the result evaluation;
  • application of modern hardware components.
Increased reliability and extension of service life of SPAAG due to:
  • replacement of standard SPAAG equipment with almost exhausted life time with new equipment manufactured using modern hardware components and technological basis;
  • high reliability of the components used;
  • overhaul of a not modernized part of SPAAG;
  • set of SPTA.
